Newton Centre Family Orthodontics is your local expert for straightening teeth. We teeth all the common reasons for having orthodontics. We offer traditional braces, as well as Invisalign. We know that getting braces causes you to live an alternative lifestyle when it comes to food for the duration of your treatment. You often see lists of food you can’t eat and that can really put a damper on life. To encourage you, we thought we’d focus on the food’s you *can* eat for this week’s blog.
Smoothies
Smoothies are great for braces. Not only are they refreshingly cold so that your pain will be temporarily numbed, but they are nutritious. Add some protein powder, a banana or fruit of your choice (avoid berries with tiny seeds though) and you’ll have your hunger sated for a time as well.
Soft Foods
There are plenty of soft foods to eat while you are the first days of having your braces and your whole face hurts. Try come scrambled eggs. They can be made with a variety of ingredients that don’t make them harder to eat. Try adding some blended salsa, pesto or just basil to add some flavor.
Some well-cooked pasta can also be tried. You’ll want to cool it down before you eat it so try some types that taste good cold. Again, some pesto with tomatoes and feta cheese could be tried.
Meat
If you are missing chomping down on a good steak, you might not be totally happy with other meats, but they might satisfy your cravings until you can chew more. Try some fish, or meatloaf and gravy to soften it up. Chicken or tuna salad that is made with all soft ingredients is a good option too, just skip the celery chunks for a while.
