Why Would I Want Invisalign?

invisalign braces are a series of bpa-free plastic algniersInvisalign is really not braces, but rather a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable custom-made aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment, as well as after. Since it is removable, you can eat, drink, brush, and floss easily during your orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is comfortable with no metal to cause mouth abrasions. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments.

The x-rays, pictures, and 3D scans of your teeth used to create your Invisalign treatment plan also create a virtual representation of how your teeth will move throughout treatment. So you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete before you even begin.

How Invisalign Works

After a consultation with Dr. Miller to determine if you are an Invisalign candidate, a treatment plan is created. Then BPA-free plastic aligners made just for you are created. You wear the aligners full time and change out aligners every week. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Miller prescribed with appointments being once every 8 weeks.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Miller will examine your teeth, take digital x-rays and discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Once you have decided on Invisalign, we take impressions of your teeth and create a customized treatment plan. Dr. Miller will also create a digital 3-D image of your teeth and use it to map out the different stages of teeth positioning.

The next step is to get your Invisalign aligners. Unlike metal braces, these will not cause any irritation or discomfort. Once you have your set of aligners, you will wear them every day. But what makes these braces so much more convenient than metal braces, is that they are easy to remove so you can take them off when you are eating and brushing and flossing your teeth. If you play sports and wear a mouth guard, you can also take the aligners off to make the guard fit better. You should wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day for the best effect so don’t leave them off for too long.

In order to improve the straightening process, Dr. Miller will provide you a new set of aligners every few weeks based on your treatment plan. At each stage of the process, you will start to see your teeth gradually getting straighter, giving you a more beautiful smile.

Dr. Miller will ask you to come in approximately every 6 weeks for an evaluation to see how the treatment is going and if any alterations have to be made to the treatment plan. Sometimes you might need to wear a retainer at the end of the treatment to help keep your teeth locked in their new position. The retainers are made with the same technology as the aligners.

Once treatment is complete, you will love your new smile and will love sharing it with the world. You will find that you will have a renewed sense of confidence as you face the world. No more hiding from the spotlight or from photographs. You will be able to show the world your beautiful smile.
